DELTA STATE THE BIG HEART

Delta’s road projects boosting food security – Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State says the State Government’s road infrastructure drive was aimed at boosting its agrarian policy towards food security for the state and country.

Oborevwori stated this weekend, while inspecting the 4.42km Obi-Ibabu/Ibabu Road with 2km drain at Onicha-Ukwuani and the 2.4km Ugolo-Okpe/Okorikpehre Road in Ndokwa West and Okpe Local Government Areas of the state, respectively.

The Governor who was on a inspection tour of some completed and ongoing projects slated for inauguration to commemorate his administration’s 100 days in office, said his government would do everything possible to improve on the quality of life of the people.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, Governor Oborevwori said his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda is aimed at advancing growth and development in the state.

He said the immediate past administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa raised the bar in road construction and would be improved upon by his administration.

“The fundamentals have been established by the immediate past governor by constructing well over 2,000km of roads and 1,400km of drains.

“So if you have that, it can only be a continuation. Therefore, when His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori said he was going to do more, it means that he was going to continue with all the projects and do many more new projects.

“Most of the inter-connecting roads are very critical to our development. We have had issues with the decadence of infrastructure over the years.

‘So in the last eight years, we have seen a lot of them come back to life; this is a further continuation,” he said.

He said the Obi-Ibabu – Ibabu Road would connect several agrarian communities within Onicha-Ukwuani and beyond to help evacuate agricultural products to the markets.

“The fact that only 2 kilomiters of drains are constructed here, shows that only 2 kilomiters of high density area is what we have; meaning we do not have lot of houses there.

“So it’s a road that truly inter-connects most of those communities over there and it is also driving our agrarian policy of trying to help bring out our raw materials to the cities where they are processed. So it’s an important road to us.

“Very soon you will see a lot of developments in Warri and it’s already started with more infrastructure, improved security will mean more development and opportunities for everybody.

“This is a continuation government to enhance what has already been done and it is on course. Deltans should expect more improvement in every sector,” he said.
