Senior Political Adviser
From Ojobo town, Burutu LGA, born in April 1962, Hon Funkekeme Solomon is a key stakeholder in Delta politics and a great contributor to the successes of the Peoples Democratic Party and various administrations of Delta State.
From his primary education at Zuokumor Primary School, he proceeded to Gbesa Grammar School, Ojobo, for his General Certificate of Education and later to the College of Education, Abraka, for N.C.E.
He subsequently enrolIed at the then Bendel State University, Abraka, for a B.A. (Hons) degree in English Language, to which he also added an M.A. in English and Literary Studies from the University of Benin.
Destined to be a leader, he demonstrated the traits from early stages as Sanitary/Health Prefect and President of the Red Cross Society in the secondary school.
At the College of Education, he was the Secretary-General of the Students’ Union Government between 1983-1984; a member of the Student’s Parliament; Pioneer Secretary-General, Political Science Students Association; President, Abraka Campus Students Union Government, during his degree programme; and President/Editor-in-Chief of the Campus Magazine published by the Renaissance Publishers
After working in the educational sector as full time lecturer in the Institute of Continuing Education, and part time lecturer of English at the College of Education, both in Warri, his love for journalism took him to the FRCN as Editor.
He was thereafter appointed Chief Press Secretary to the pioneer Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, and at the collapse of the 3rd Republic civilian regime, he was made Deputy Project Director of the state’s newspaper, Pointer.
From this point, Funkekeme tuned himself to active, partisan politics which saw him through various parties like the UPN, SDP and APP at different times.
His political activism culminated in his election into the Delta State House of Assembly, in representation of Burutu II Constituency, in 1999 and at which he was elected Minority Leader. He re-contested and won the seat in 2003 under the ANPP and was also returned as Minority leader.
Understanding the political trajectory of the state, Funkekeme came over to the PDP in 2007, contested and won the seat for the third time and was elected Deputy Speaker of the House.
After the tenure, he came back to service as Political Adviser and subsequently became the choice for Director General of the Delta State PDP Campaign Council in the 2023 general election in which the PDP won the Governorship polls with a landslide.
