Goodnews Agbi
Special Adviser, Project Monitoring
Born in 1960, from Oyede, Isoko North LGA, Engr Dr Goodnews Agbi had always been active in Delta politics and had served the Peoples Democratic Party in various capacities.
He was the pioneer Deputy Chairman of the National Youths Mobilization of the PDP between 1998 and 1999, and also a member of the National Election Committee of the PDP assigned to conduct the primaries in Abia that returned former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu as the party’s flag bearer.
In the same period, he contested the governorship primaries of the defunct Grassroots Democratic Party, GDM, with Chief James Ibori, and also contested the PDP Governorship primaries in 2007 alongside former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
He temporarily left the PDP in 2014 and was on the ballot in the 2023 Governorship election as flag bearer of the NNPP after which he accepted to serve under the administration of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as Special Adviser, Project Monitoring, a assignment for which he is well tailored, considering his educational profile and cognate experience.
A Lagosian in early life, he attended Orile Iganmu Primary School, Lagos, St Finbarr’s College, Akoka Lagos for his WASC and , Kings College, Lagos, for Advanced Level Certificate.
He proceeded to then Bauchi Campus of Ahmadu Bello University where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Engineering, B.Eng, Civil, and on to the University of Lagos for a Masters degree in Structural Engineering, M.Sc, Structures, 1997.
1n 1999, he enrolled for an MBA program at University of Calabar, graduating in 2001, and proceeded thereafter to Staton University, Tampa, Florida, USA, for a Ph.D in Monetary Economics, 2003.
A member of Nigeria Society Engineers; the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN; a Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, FNSE; Africa Business School, FABS; and the Institute of Policy Management Development, FIPMD, Dr. Agbi lectures at the Delta State University, teaching Strength of Materials; Advanced Structural Design of Concrete Structures; Structural Design of Prestressed Concrete; Design of Steel Structures; and Highway Design, amongst other courses, and has written several papers and books, including the highly sought after “Introduction To Structural Mechanics” and “Theory of Structures.”
In the private sector, he started work as Project Engineer, later Senior Project Engineer, with SNC Lavalin, the Canadian Consultancy firm that carried out the World Bank sponsored rehabilitation of the Lagos State Water Works in Iju and Ishashi, in which he is especially credited for the the Rehabilitation and Redesign of the Alum Tank house and Intake Structures, the internal roads, the staff housing and several other aspects.
On his exit from SNC Lavalin at the end of the project, he incorporated Mortgage Builders Limited with which he was involved in the design and building of several structures in Abuja, Warri, some of which include the design and building of Uwvie Local Government Secretariat and Gwarinpa Housing Estate.
A Consultant to the NDDC, he designed the Famgbe Road Extension from Ikolo Waterside across River Nun to Ammassoma Airport at Bayelsa State; the Emevor ByPass and Internal roads in Isoko North Local and supervised the Shoreline Protection project of the NDDC at Opuoma.
