Anthony Ofoni

Special Adviser, Community Development

Born in 1967, from Uvwie LGA, Hon Tony Ofoni is not only a highly recognised community relations and development activist but also a widely certificated health, safety and environmental expert.

Educated at Alegbo Primary School, Urhobo College, Effurun, and Otokutu Grammar School, Otokutu, where he obtained his West Africa School Certificate, he proceeded to the Delta State University, Abraka, for a Bsc (Ed) in Social Studies and a Masters in Political Science.

He followed those qualifications up with a wide range of studies in various professional and specialised fields, leading to his Fellowship of the Institute of Policy Management Development (FIPMD); Nigerian Environmental Society (FNES); and Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (FISPON).

A certified Environmental Impact Assessment Manager and member of the World Safety Organisation (WSO), he is grounded in Occupational Safety and Health Management System, Development Leadership Initiative and General Safety and Firefighting, amongst others.

His working life has taken him through Shell Petroleum Development Company Plc where he worked under Arco Petrochemical Engineering and General Electrical Nuovo Pognone, and Daewo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Limited as Safety Supervisor.

At the intra community level, he was Public Relations Officer of Effurun Community Development Committee and Assistant Financial Secretary, Uvwie General Improvement Union.

Prior to his appointment as Special Adviser on Environment, he had served the state as Commissioner, Project Monitoring and Audit, 2022-2023; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters; Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development; Uvwie LGA Coordinator of the Delta State Ward Liaison Officers; Uvwie LGA Coordinator of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme (Okowa Phenomenon/Widows Alert); and Community Liaison Officer, Uvwie LGA.
