Ekemejero Ohwovoriole SAN

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

From Agbon Olomu, Ughelli South LGA, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Law from the University of Lagos.
Called to the Bar in 1995, he performed his National Youth Service with Mrakpor & Oju Chambers in Lagos, and began his active legal practice at the Chambers of Chief M. P. Ohwovoriole SAN, also in Lagos.
While in practice, he committed himself to the development of the profession by offering part time lectures at the then Lagos Campus of the Delta State University, and in 2003, he was invited to the Delta State public service as Special Assistant to the then Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof A. A. Utuama.
In that capacity, he represented the state in various cases at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, producing several landmark results in the process.
At the end of that political tenure, he however declined continued engagement in the public service, opting to go into full time private practice. This gave birth to Aequitas Chambers, a hugely successful law firm with head office in Asaba and branches in Lagos and Abuja, that has produced precedents in Constitutional, Criminal, Commercial and Election laws.
Following his output in the legal profession, he was appointed a Notary Public in 2005 and elevated to the prestigious class of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2017.
A member of the International Bar Association and very active member of the Nigeria Bar Association, he served in the National Executive Committee under four successive administrations, from 2010 to 2017, during which period he also served in various strategic committees, including Judiciary Committee, Rules and Practice Committee and Administration of Justice Committee. These were after he had earlier served as a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Ikeja, Lagos, branch of the association.
Ohwovoriole belongs to a long list of both national, bilateral and multilateral professional and business organisations such as the the Nigerian Norwegian Chamber of Commerce; the Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture; and INSOL International.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators as well as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN).
The return of Ohwovoriole to the Ministry of Justice as Commissioner and Attorney General, years after he had earlier served as Special Assistant in the same office keeps him well at home with requirements and the demands of his new assignment, albeit with greater experience from the bar, social, political and business world.
